Given that the codex comes with a whole heap of ded killy new rules, we thought we’d dive into dakka today. These joined the faction’s previous batch of updated model kits, released in and around the Shadowspear box set in 2019. Squig Cavalry get a 3-trait table that improves their squig mounts’ hit rolls, AP, or Move characteristic, all of which are pretty useful, but none of which are particularly interesting.I say “alternative” here because you can only use one of these once per game, so you’ll have to pick which. There’s also the usual assortment ofupdated subfaction rules for the Ork clans, Warlord Traits, Psychic Abilities, Relics, and Crusade campaign rules.

As well as new sculpts of the Chaos Space Marine PossessedandChaos Cultists, there were threebrand new, gruesomely mutated kits: the ‘Accursed Cultist Mutants’ and ‘Accursed Cultist Torments’. This sounds cool but it’s pretty narrow – literally nothing that can benefit from this has a toughness of less than 5, so your range of things impacted is attacks of S6 and 7, and units that have +1 to wound effects. Using it now burns out the force field for the rest of the game, turning it useless (and the strat itself is still once per game even if you bring two). The Old Ones were destroyed, and since then the Ork species has become ever more slapdash and bestial.Some of this feels like a little bit of a shame – the Ork stratagem sheet is a little sparse compared to some other factions (presumably intended to counterbalance getting multiple customisation options) and not all of these really needed to be culled.
