About this deal

The Financial Times and its journalism are subject to a self-regulation regime under the FT Editorial Code of Practice. There’s a terrifying flashback which takes place at Waterloo Station during the infestation which was the most gruelling scene I’ve ever written. My very brilliant agent Liza DeBlock at Mushens Entertainment has secured me a smashing two-book publishing deal with Angry Robot Books for MOTHS and TOXXIC.

I went to university at the age of thirty-four, studying philosophy and English literature, and there I gained confidence in myself and my writing. All around the world men are turning into crazed killers or dying in their sleep, as toxic threads find passage on every breath of wind. The world fell apart after the men were either dead or locked up which could symbolise that women are not well equipped with keeping the world going without a man around. I read this book without knowing anything about it beforehand, which I think increased my enjoyment, and the book's impact on me as the story unfolded.

Moths is a little like if The Handmaid’s Tale and The Power had a baby, but with a older main character torn between wanting to forget the past and wanting to honour it and an array of LGBT+ characters backing her up. I felt a sense of guilt, that I’d been indulging in the fantasy of an apocalypse and here was the real thing – full of death and suffering. On our site, you can find not only book reviews but author interviews, cover reveals, excerpts from books, acquisition announcements, guest posts by your favourite authors, and so much more.Blackheart Ghosts is a neo-noir thriller packed with betrayal, sorcery and conspiracy where a disgraced ex-knight must battle a magical uprising to save a Bladrunner-esque vision of Camelot. Also, it’s estimated that women make up less than 20% of engineers in the tech industry - without whom, no Internet network, or mobile phone signal would be possible.

When writing the future timeline, it turned out that getting rid of the patriarchy is harder than just killing off the majority of men and locking the rest up in facilities and sanatoriums. As humanty adapts into a matriachal society, the surviving men are kept isolated, and imprisoned for everyone’s protection and the world begins to move on. The gender role reversal in this new world was done subtly but had a big impact as all it did was have the women of the future describe the men how men describe women in this day and age.
