Herbert James Clarke( Olympic skater in 1924) was elected the first, and to date the only, British President of the ISU. Walker’s father had been a minister in Rotterdam, meaning that, as a child, he had learned to skate on the Netherlands’ frozen canals.Skaters went to War and some lost their lives amongst them, Walter Gregory, Freddie Tomlins and Tony Austin. They clearly had a special relationship and had fun with their scheme to get Alison into the Edinburgh Skating Club.
