Early in their career, they were compared unfavourably to gloomy bands that had come out of the north of England in the late 1970s and 1980s – the Guardian described them as the “ITV2 version of Joy Division”. Musical differences got out of hand, culminating in Urbanowicz’s departure – Editors recruited two new members to take his place. In July 2008, he contributed a cover of "Bonny" (by Prefab Sprout) for the UK edition of the Independents Day charity album.

The secondary characters, Gerald and Carol, and Christopher’s relationships with them – some of the dialogue between them was wonderfully judged! I, of course, secreted these columns away in a special hiding place, because I assumed that these letters were the only spanking literature that existed in the universe.
